The Language And Meaning of Flowers
vEvery petal of a flower has a story to tell, and every flower has a meaning and language of its own. How many of us have given roses to our loved ones, suggesting that they might be the loves of our lives. This language and meaning of flowers is used as communication, or used to express feelings and ideas.
Floriography, the science of assigning meaning to flowers, has also been created. Every color of the flower, number of flowers and their fragrances covey some thought or emotion. Every presentation of flowers, may it be on centerpieces or floral arrangements at wedding, holds in its own some meaning and expression. There exists a silent language that uses flowers and their beautiful color and magnificent array of fragrances to
convey thoughts, expressions, ideas and emotions; this language may be lost due to lack of use.
Presenting flowers also has meaning associated with it like for e.g. giving a flower upright has a positive meaning. Flowers presented with the right hand means a sign of yes and if presented by the left hand it means a no. Some flowers like Basils mean “Best Wishes”, Pink Carnations mean “I’ll never forget you” and Hare bells mean “Grief”. In the same manner there are so many flowers that mean so many things.
